About Us

In 2013 Douglas and Helen Scott-Watson, farmers from Kelso bought The Border Hotel. The Hotel was somewhere we had both grown up with visiting and enjoying it’s good food and hospitality and we work to continue that heritage.

We enjoy working with the fantastic staff most of whom are local to the village, they are as loyal and attached to it as we are.

We are an active family who walk, run, ride and take part in lots of local outdoor activities and events.
As farmers we understand about producing quality food, the Hotel uses organic free range eggs from our hens. We have great local producers supplying the hotel with quality produce.

Chef Aaron Rowe
Aaron joined us when we started in January 2018, but he’s no stranger to the Border Hotel. He started his career straight from school here. And after working around the Borders gaining further experience and education at different establishments he was ready to return and demonstrate his skill, and knowledge to create the mouthwatering dishes we have been enjoying since he started. He works closely with local suppliers to make sure the Best of the Borders is served up. Our suppliers include Fresh fish and seafood from Ross Dougal, Eyemouth, meat from Valley meats in Yetholm. Organic eggs from Easter Softlaw, potatoes from Wester wooden, oats from Hogarth Mill, cheese and ice cream from Doddington’s dairy and fruits and veg from Julian’s.

Front of house manager Julie Wilson
Julie has been at The Border for over 6 years. She has worked her way around all parts of the business. From house keeping, bar and front of house. So she really knows what makes The Border Hotel tick!
She is the friendly face that welcomes guests on arrival and will go out of her way to accommodate their needs. An ethos she passes onto her staff who all aim to put the customer first and make them feel comfortable.
She was recently awarded Front of House manager of year at the lavish Scottish hotel awards ceremony in Glasgow. An incredible achievement against some of the very best competition from some of the biggest hotels in Scotland.
